Megan and Miranda on Thanksgiving Day…
Mmmm! Is that the smell of Turkey! Yum! Oh, and pumpkin pie! This is our favorite part of this great big feast! This is a celebration of the Holiday Thanksgiving. This holiday happens every 4th Thursday in November. Most people celebrate Thanksgiving by gathering with family and friends for a holiday feast.
Thanksgiving started a long time ago… It all started with the Pilgrims and the Indians. This was a very important time in history. Many years ago, the Indians became friends with the Pilgrims. The Pilgrims did not know how to survive on their own so the Indians helped them. The Indians taught the Pilgrims how to hunt, fish, and build. The Pilgrims also learned how to grow corn, beans and pumpkins from the Indians. They forgot all about their differences and became friends. They celebrated their harvest by giving thanks to God and having the first Thanksgiving feast.
Thanksgiving is a day to create memories that last a lifetime. Here are some great ways; Since all of the Grown-ups do most of the cooking, the kids can do some of the decorating. We can set the table; make name cards; and make decorations with cool crafts of turkeys or pumpkins. You can use all kinds of things to make your crafts, like leaves, acorns, pine cones, etc. Miranda and I LOVE making Thanksgiving Day Crafts.
Every year at this time Families get together and visit and share one of the biggest Feasts. Our families come together and help with the cooking for everyone to enjoy. Then we all spend time talking and sharing with each other then the kids usually go outside to play. While some of the family will lay down and take a nap, others will watch TV or go hunting. Then just before everyone heads home for the day we all get to enjoy eating some of the wonderful desserts that were made. Our Favorite is the pumpkin pie of course, with whipped cream on top! This brings the day to a great ending with memories to go with it, oh yeah! and a Full Tummy!
The most important part of Thanksgiving is not the …Pumpkin Pie!, even though it maybe the yummiest!...It is all about Giving Thanks to God for all He has done for us. “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks for everything: for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus .” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Maybe you can take some time to write down all of the things that you are thankful for, I’m sure that your family would love to hear your thoughts. We are thankful for so many things like… Family, Friends, Health, and lots more. There are a lot of different ways that we can show just how much we are thankful; Helping others, Doing something special for someone, making thank you cards, or just saying these very special words ……… “THANK YOU!” Just saying, Thank you means a lot , that’s why every day we like to pray and tell God of everything that we are thankful for. So remember to always be thankful for everything, and don’t forget to let God know just how thankful you are!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Megan and Miranda
