Harbor Hounds opens at the Emerald Grande!

 An adorable new Dog Boutique called Harbor Hounds has opened in the Emerald Grande. We dropped by today with our SpokesPup, Mako and she had a great time picking out a new toy and playing with the owner, Brian. She also picked out some treats from the bakery case, which are baked fresh locally by HollyWOOF Bakery.

We're going to be working with Ronald McDonald!

This is TOO COOL! We are going to be hosting the "Big Kahuna's Fun Day" on June 14th with Ronald McDonald. This is a fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House in Pensacola and we are SOOO! excited to help with this important charity. They help kids who have no place to go and that is really important.

KidZone will soon be 100%kidz!

DreamingofDestin.com is a website that has something for everyone! We have Destin by Day, Destin by Night, Weddings, Accommodations, Activity Central, Shout-Out Central, Dog Friendly, Big Kahuna's '09, The Megan and Miranda Show, KidZone and more... Next week, the name of our kid area will change to '100%kidz' and our new weekly series 'KidNews with Kiran' will begin with 10-year-old Kiran in the anchor chair.

The new series will focus on Kid News in the Destin area as well as national Kid News. When we selected the name 'KidZone' a couple of years ago, it was fairly unique, but now the name is all over the web and real life. We let Kiran rename the section and we think she did a great job. The section will be referred to as '100%kidz' and the domain name will be '100percentkidz.com' since the '%' symbol may not be used in domain names.   

 

Kiran's first segment will appear on May 15th. 

Fitz and Emme opens in the Market Shops at Sandestin!

A new children's boutique called Fitz and Emme has opened in the Market Shops at Sandestin. The store is located at the front entrance across from Starbucks and is packed with cute clothes and accessories for small children.

 

The physical location is accompanied by a website created by the company that owns us, Imagine Dream Design and will feature our new boutique cart that makes online shopping a breeze. Fitz and Emme is also a sponsor of the Megan and Miranda Show and the girls recently filmed a 'Shout-Out' for Fitz and Emme. (Watch the video on the Megan and miranda Show)

Doggy Dining Bill Approved! Bravo!

Okaloosa County Commissioners gave final approval to a doggy dining ordinance this week, which allows dogs in outdoor portions of permitted restaurants. Restaurants that want to participate must apply for a county license for which there is no fee. (Good Job! The county won't need a fee because this very smart decision will create plenty of additional revenue in the form of taxes.) The full story can be found on the Daily News website.

 

We're glad that the commissioners have recognized the benefit of becoming dog friendly. We receive more emails due to Destin's 'lack of dog friendliness' than for any other subject. Reguardless of whether you like dogs or not, being dog friendly is good for business.

 

This is a good first step and the next move should be to establish a dog friendly beach or better yet, just allow dogs on the beach. In October of 2007, Panama City Beach established a 'Dog Beach' at the foot of Pier Park. The dog beach is across the highway from an off-leash dog park. Pensacola has five city run dog parks, several off-leash. We hope the 'powers that be' in Destin will follow everyone elses lead (leading would have been better) and make Destin more dog friendly. Remember, dog friendly policies create cash. We send our thanks to the commissioners for making this move and encourage them to extend dog friendly policies to the beach and parks.

 

NOTE: Any dog friendly business will receive FREE ad space in our new 'Dog Friendly' section. This can be restaurants, boutiques, accommodations or any type of store.

People are getting excited about our changes!

  Lots of exciting, new changes are coming to DreamingofDestin.com and people are getting excited. We have had a record number of blog hits today and figured we better get something up fast because people are interested in our newly updated home page. The new homepage went "LIVE" last night and we are working today, Jake is here on Saturday!, to get the rest of the pages updated to the 900 pixel size we are now using. It is a lot of complicated codes, parameters and that kind of talk to explain the limitations on pixel size when using flash technology, but lets just say we are very happy we are now a larger, literally, site.

It is also a major change since every image and page has to be updated or they will look a little fuzzy. (The home page images are sized at 800 pixels right now and they are not as clear as usual and that is why.) We are inserting lots of interactivity into the new site, (hover over the Megan and Miranda logo on the bottom right and watch them "pop up" (See image below) They will soon do that in "real video" and will literally be jumping out of the screen!)

23rd Annual Wine Festival at Sandestin

       

We stopped by the 23rd Annual Wine Festival at Sandestin on Sunday April 26 and had the opportunity to meet Gabrielle who was sampling AV Brands for Southern Wine and Spirits.

Gabrielle gave us a sample of a Sparkling Pinot Grigio by Voga and it was pretty incredible.

Sandestin did a great job putting on this, the 23rd Annual Wine Festival. It was our first year and we plan on covering the full event next year.  

For now...Let's stop blogging and start "Wining". Voga, it is!
